Frequently Asked Questions

Technical Questions

Q: Do I need to own a copy of RDR2?

A: Yes. RockStar and the CFX community have a system in place that requires that you own a legal copy of Red Dead Redemption 2 or Red Dead Online to be able to play on any RedM Server. These copies can be purchased through RockStar, Epic Games, or Steam.

Q: TeamSpeak3 or Mumble?

A: As of March 1st, 2024, The Administrative team are choosing to utilize Mumble. Mumble is not without its faults and flaws, but, it's free and means our players do not require an additional program running in tandem with RedM. However, as population increases, we may need to consider switching to TeamSpeak3 if Mumbles limitations become problematic.

Discord Questions

Q: Do I need to join the discord to be able to play on server?

A: Yes. All of our announcements in regards to updates or changes are made in the discord, the application process is through discord, and once allowlisted, your tags in discord determine your ability to get in server. The moment you leave, your tags are removed and prevent you from logging onto the server.

Q: Why are Player Reports done in Tickets and not in an Open Forum?

A: Some tickets that come across our virtual desk may contain sensitive information or have Meta about On-Going RP. Staff and Admins are also firmly against treating Player Reports like 'The Hottest Gossip', where everyone gawks and judges. If our team ever feels that the rulings on a particular situation need to be made public, an announcement will be made, but names and some details will be left out to respect the privacy of others.

Q: Can we have an RP Appreciation Channel?

A: No. Many of us on staff have seen this across the many servers we have been a part of. All too often, users put way too much information and try to skirt around the 'No Meta in Discord' rule. We also feel that Public RP Appreciation is a little self serving. "I said something nice about you, now say something nice back for everyone to see". While this is usually not a person's intention, that is often how it comes across. If you really appreciate someone's RP and the effort they put in, shoot them a DM, or maybe put in a ticket to recommend them for the Ambassador role.

Q: What is the Ambassador Role? Are there any perks? How do I become an Ambassador?

A: As this is often a Three Part Question, it will be a Three Part Answer.

  1. Ambassadors serve as an example of what it means to be a Good RPer and Community Member. They are often among the first ones to welcome newcomers, are generally well liked among the community, and are helpful to others both in and out of character.
  2. There are no actual perks to being an Ambassador. We at Free Spirit feel that no one player is more important than another and should not be treated differently. We do, however, want to give praise and show recognition when players go above and beyond for their community.
  3. Ambassadors are chosen by the community. There are some stipulations, however.
    • Potential Ambassadors cannot be recommended by members of their personal friend groups.
    • They must be in good standing with staff and remain in good standing. (No warnings or suspensions)
    • They must be a regularly active member and RPer within the community and server.

Forum Questions

Q: Do I have to join the forum to be able to RP on the server?

A: No. The forum is completely optional.

Q: What is the forum for?

A: We try to minimize clutter in our discord, but we also understand and appreciate that players enjoy sharing screenshots, artwork, and video clips of their characters, want a place to share character backstories or even a place to create a character journal. We provide a space to do this on the forum. Players who have no interest in seeing things of this nature simply won't join the forum.

Q: Why have a Forum when you could just make more channels in Discord?

A: The short answer is to minimize clutter. The more involved answer is because Staff and Admins already have a lot of channels we need to monitor and keep track of, many of which the general player-population will never see. The Discord is for ease of Communication, the forum is for server related things that aren't a necessity but are things players still enjoy sharing or seeing.

Q: How do I join the forum?

A: You only need a valid email to create an account. Once you create an account, the forum will give you instructions to open a Forum Support ticket. From there, select staff members who specialize in assisting with the forum will walk you through the process of creating your account. We do it this way to stop spam accounts. You can also make a profile for EACH character you play, so postings you submit can be from that character.

Q: If I wanted to make a character journal for my character, won't someone just meta the information?

A: Meta is always a risk when players make information available to outside parties. However, we do have strict rules regarding information on the forum and how it is utilized in game. Unless the author of a post explicitly states that information can be known in game, things like Journals, backstories, group pages, etc. are for OOC entertainment purposes only. To minimize Meta, we always recommend that posters limit sensitive information pertaining to their character.

However, users who are proven to have used meta information from the forum will face reprimand such as warnings or suspensions. These suspensions will apply to both the server and access to the forum.

Streamer and Broadcasting Questions

Q: Can I stream my RP while playing on this server?

A: Absolutely! We encourage streamers to share their experiences with their communities.

Q: I noticed your discord has a 'Now Streaming' channel. Can I link my stream when I go live?

A: No, we have a bot that handles this automatically. Streamcord looks for specific triggers before it will post that you are live. Your discord needs to be connected to your Twitch account, your game listed needs to be 'Red Dead Redemption 2', and your stream title must contain 'Free Spirit' or 'FSRP' before it will post for you. If you do not meet these parameters, the bot will not list you as live.

Q: I RP on a few different servers. Can I still stream another server?

A: Of course you can! We are aware that some communities either discourage or altogether prohibit the broadcasting of other server content while part of their community, but that is absolutely not the case at Free Spirit. So long as what you broadcast while on our server falls within our rules and guidelines, no one should have any say in what you stream.

Q: I have a pretty big community/lots of viewers. Are there any accommodations for streamers?

A: No. We do not feel it is appropriate to give special treatment to anyone purely because of their status as a streamer. Besides, we have seen streamers that have viewers in the upper hundreds who are terrible RPers, while some people who cannot afford a PC powerful enough to stream from that are phenomenal RPers. We are more concerned with Quality RP than we are with gaining numbers or popularity, and that will always be our stance.
